About the Foundation

Born from a personal mission to make healthcare what it should be — accessible, accurate, and equitable for every human being on earth.

Our Story

About Us

The Global Care Intl. Foundation was birthed by Robert E. Higgs in February 2026 as a fulfillment of a vision first conceived in 2020, and based upon the original mission he committed himself to in 2008 — to bring 21st century medicine to underserved and impoverished populations across the globe.

As a philanthropic foundation, we seek to work hand-in-hand with other international philanthropic organizations who share our vision and are committed to breaking down the barriers of social, political, and economic restrictions that too often limit the choices patients have in seeking quality health care.

The Foundation's co-founding partner, Global Care International, Inc., has been developing its digital health ecosystem for over 10 years. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst that accelerated the recognition by governments around the world of the critical importance of having a national digital health infrastructure — and the Foundation's technologies are now being pursued for deployment in over 50 nations.

The Foundation's Philanthropic Digital Health Initiative can propel these nations to a successful conclusion of their 2030 Digitalization of Health goals — ensuring no nation is left behind in the global march toward universal access to quality healthcare.

The Origin Story

How We Got Here

November 2007

A Near Tragedy That Changed Everything

This mission was birthed from a near tragedy involving Mr. Higgs' wife, Carole. In November of 2007, Mrs. Higgs was admitted to an acute care hospital facility for a common surgical procedure. Normally expected to last only two to three days, the hospital stay turned into something far more serious.

There were 4 major preventable medical errors(1 Pre-OP and 3 OR) that changed Mr. Higgs and his wife's life forever.

35 Days Post-OP

Witnessing the Systemic Failures

Post-OP lasted for 35 days, with 27 days in an ICU environment. During the first 16 days, Carole found herself fighting for her very life. Mr. Higgs observed that many of the very systems upon which his wife's wellbeing rested were either flawed or simply non-existent.

During the initial 16-day period, there were a total of 22 additional medical errors— most caused by care providers either not having the necessary data, or the data not being in a form that could be “Made Actionable” through automatic clinical decisions sent to providers within a given time period.

2008 – The Commitment

A Commitment to Change

Mr. Higgs, himself an entrepreneur and engineer, made a commitment to his wife and himself that he would apply all his experience and abilities — 40+ patents across 14 different industries— to help bring about fundamental change to an industry that had for too long resisted reform in clinical decision making.

The fruits of Mr. Higgs' efforts have received countless recognition and awards both domestically and internationally in the field of Digital Health, and have been deployed on four continents. See www.globalcareintl.com
